Meaning and Significance

The central theme of “Maula Ya Salli Wa Sallim” is the constant sending of blessings (salawat) upon Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The repetition of the refrain emphasises that this act of sending blessings should be continuous and never-ending.

The poem highlights three key aspects of the Prophet’s personality:

  1. His noble character – The Prophet is described as having the greatest and most generous character, reflecting the Quranic verse “And indeed, you are of a great moral character” (Quran 68:4).
  2. His luminous face – The Prophet’s face is described as radiant, bringing light to darkness. This signifies his role as a guide who brought the light of Islam to a world of ignorance.
  3. His intercession – Muslims hope for the Prophet’s intercession (shafa’ah) on the Day of Judgment. The poem expresses this hope and trust in the Prophet’s mercy towards his followers.
